DO THE THINGS YOU LOVE THE MOST WHILE YOU STILL CAN

My favorite place to sleep is in a big cozy bed with my mom and dad.  I also love a big soft comforter.  I used to make the trek up stairs every night, and it made me very happy to be able to sleep in my mom and dads bed. Im getting older now, and cant make it up the stairs so well, so I sleep alone downstairs, and I guard the house too.  The message here is do the things you love while you still can, you dont know what the future holds.

SIT BY THE FIRE WITH THE ONES YOU LOVE

I love to sit by the fire with my Dad.
As  I may have told you before, I love to be comfortable and I can find the most comfortable place to sit anywhere.  I dont really like to lie on the ground like a dog,  and I find that I am quite comfortable in a chair. I once went the veternarian and the vet was quite surprised when I was sitting in a chair in the waiting room and not pacing the floor like the dogs that were there.  Back to my story, I derive happiness from sitting near the ones I love, and sharing a warm fire and glass of fruit juice.  Did I tell you I use a glass not a dog bowl (just kidding).   So take this tip from Dandy, stop and enjoy a fire with someone you love.

DANDY LOVES TO WATCH THE SUNRISE

 
My dad gets up every day at 6:00 am to exercise, and before he does that he lets me outside to take care of my morning obligations.   We are fortunate enough to live near the water and I get to watch a beautiful sunrise every morning.  Our house faces East so I get a sunrise but not a sunset.  I never let a day go by that I don't stop and watch the sunrise.  I like to sit for a moment and watch the colors of the sky change as the sun comes up.  My brother Duke, just does his morning business and wants to get back in the house as quickly as he can, even when he was younger he did this.  But I always have appreciated the sunrise and never miss one.  You should too, dont miss a sunrise, it is a great way to start your day, and I am happy all day after a great sunrise.

DANDY LOVES TO TAKE A SWIM

As you know, Labradors are water dogs, and I think swimming is my very favorite thing in the whole world to do.  I wanted to share this with you, so that you might consider taking a swim. My family has a great pool,  but my mom and my dad don't usually go swimming they just walk by the pool each day, or dad will spend time cleaning it.  My brother Duke, also a Labrador never wants to swim, I think something is wrong with that, I mean he's a Labrador and Labs are supposed to love it, right? Well he won't go near the pool.  I never miss an opportunity to swim, every time I go out I head straight to the pool. I think that is why they put up the pool fence, because I come in wet every time I go outside. My mom and dad get all upset and complain that I am getting the floor wet, but I am happy and I feel cool all over after a nice swim. I have a video for you to see (below) and notice that my dad keeps trying to keep me from rubbing my head on the side of the pool, I really like to do this, but I had a problem with my ear, and Dad had to pay a lot of money to the vet to fix it, so now they try to keep me from rubbing on the edge of the pool. I still do it anyway, it feels good!.   How many of you have a pool and walk by every day and don't jump in.  I say go for it, jump in and enjoy it, dont think of all the reasons why not to take a swim, just do it. Dad says I look like one of those zoo lions swimming, I think its fun to glide thru the water, and  I do sometimes pretend I'm a lion.

Dandy Likes Sweet Potatoe

I wanted to share with you my quest in life, FOOD.  I live for food, I wake up thinking about food, and I go to sleep thinking about food.  I find that I am most happy when eating food, almost any food, but not espcially dog food.  I think that one way for everyone to be truly happy is  to share food with others.  Although I don't practice what I preach, as you can see in the video, I dont share well. As a result my brother Duke is pretty much a bag of bones, but not all my fault, I hope.   People should worry less about how they look, and their waist size, and more about enjoying food that they truly love.  Get out there and share some good food with friends. If you are like many of my friends, they dont get out often enough and dont get together with good friends to share food. Eat, laugh, and be happy.

A LITTLE NAP HELPS THE SOUL

As a happy Labrador, one thing I think helps the soul and makes me happy is a good nap, any where, any time.  Labs like to be comfortable at all times. I have developed the ability to seek out the most comfortable and most expensive furniture in any house, anywhere, anytime.  I prefer leather, because it is cool and Im normally hot due to my thick coat. Here I am getting ready to nap

some times, I like to find my brother Duke, did I mention I have a brother.  Actually we came from the same puppy farm 12 years ago, I think we had the same mom and dad, but anyway here is a picture of my older brother;
so on some occasions I do take a short nap with my brother, here we are taking a short nap together
Ok, enough pictures of me sleeping or getting ready to sleep, the main point I wanted to make is that if you feel like taking a nap, never say Im too busy or I have a schedule, or I have places to go, just slow down and do like I do, and enjoy a nap, even if it is a short one.  PS I dont believe that "let sleeping dogs lie stuff" I never get mad, Im too happy and willing to end my nap any time if you want to play with me.

My First Video

Ok, I'm somewhat of a celebrity, my first video got 5400 hits on youtube so far.  This is one way to enjoy life, and I dont mean biting a sprinkler, but that is what i did.  Remember I was just a puppy, but I had lots of fun with this sprinkler.  I think in life you should just go for it, if you see a sprinkler or a waterfall and you want to go stand in it, then just do it.  There is no rule that says you cant do it, so why not.  I did and I still remember it to this day.

Hi My Name is Dandy, I Love Life!

I am Dandy, a 12 year old Labrador Retriever from Florida. I decided to write a column on how to live life to its fullest, and be happy.  I wanted to share my thoughts with you in the hope that you might try some of my ideas and be happy too.  I plan to continue writing this column as long as I can, you know until it is time to go.  I know that my time here might be limited since I'm pretty old in dog years, but I feel that I have a special gift that I wanted to share with the world. My gift is how to enjoy life and be happy. One of my favorite things to do is float around in the pool with my mom on a raft. I hope that you will enjoy!
